Cherry Blossoms have always been synonymous with Washington DC and Japan. But now get ready to add India to this list. Cancel your tickets to Japan, go domestic this winter and behold the exquisite sight of wild Himalayan cherry blossoms on the Khasi Hills.

Starting late October until November, Meghalaya’s beautiful Khasi Hills are covered with soft blooming white, pink and red shades of Himalayan Cherry Blossom tree. This exquisite indigenous tree grows like wildfire here, but the locals have started appreciating its charm only recently. Last year in November, Shillong hosted, its first Indian Cherry Blossom Festival, and it is again organizing the same from 8th – 11th November 2017.
The festival is organized by Meghalaya Government, with an association with IBSD (Bio-Resources and Sustainable Development), Indian Council of Cultural Relations and Imphal. It is a free festival, which is open to all and will be organized in Shillong. The government has also; put its focus of the blossom in the last year, planting thousands of cherry trees, which are guarded by tall bamboo tree lining.

The festival will also consist of guided night walk tours under the illuminated cherry blossoms, wine, food stalls showcasing different cuisines, arts, craft and live music. Tourists will be able to experience the true essence of Meghalaya in this festival, where they will be able to explore the art and culture of the region, while also connecting with nature. Visitors can also expect and participate stunt bike races, board games, bicycle rallies, beauty pageants and archery contests etc in this festival.

We would recommend you take a walk around the Ward’s Lake under the stars and show of these white and pink blossoms. This place looks nothing less than a white and soft pink paradise.
